Palm attempts comeback against iPhone and BlackBerry

Palm, once the dominant player in the handheld space, has lost ground to competitors like Apple and RIM. Not it appears that Palm will once again try to make a comeback. Palm is making attempts to get back in the game through a new marketing hire, according to Brand Republic.

"Palm is planning to fight back, however, with the emergence into the fray of EMEA marketing director, Simon Lloyd, who joined the company at the beginning of October. As a former Nokia marketer, Lloyd has excellent knowledge of the competition. He admits that Palm's European marketing has been dormant, but pledges to win ground from the brand's well-known rivals."

Will Lloyd be able to save Palm merely through marketing efforts? That's doubtful. Palm needs a new direction and a fresh OS. The Palm OS is seriously outdated and their Treo line of phones while improved, are still lacking in several key areas. While everyone else seems to be going for more screen space, Palm continues to make tiny screens. C'mon guys.
